Henoch Argaw

From an early age Henoch had been enamored of complex analysis. He described himself and his hopes as both practical and philosophical.

In middle school, Henoch Argaw’s proclivity for math and science garnered him a presidential award for education excellence, and he went on to attend and win numerous STEM competitions prior to coming to MIT.

He was a competitive chess player. He served as an Officer for the MIT Sports Club Council.

As far as music is concerned, Henoch played Trumpet since 4th grade and performed in various occasions including Christmas Carol at Denver Performing Arts. He played with Denver Brass, Denver Symphony Orchestra and others.

Henoch was a Soccer Referee at Centennial, Colorado Storm, Colorado Youth Soccer, and Play the Whistle.

Henoch was also a Member of the National Honor Society, as well as the Chinese and Math Honor Societies. He was also engaged in his school’s No Place for Hate Action Group and its AP Advisory Board Committee to help students not to doubt their potential.

As with mathematics, music came easily to Henoch, as did languages. Born in Tampere Finland, he was near fluent in Amharic, Mandarin and Arabic, besides English.

Henoch demonstrated his ability to weave together his interests when he designed and developed a mobile app for Chinese language flashcards in 2013 while he was High School freshman.

Henoch was consecutively for two years the highest scorer in Math competition at Middle School with 7th and 8th Grade Students from the entire Cherry Creek School Districts.

Developed open source code of the Lightning Network for private cryptocurrency transactions and he won the final class project in 6.S08 in Spring 2017.

Henoch was self-employed developing Android Applications and developed apps such as – Games, Math aids and Chinese and Arabic flashcards. His project included developing an artificial poker player/robot that won him and his partner a cash award in a competition.

Key Achievements

National Advanced Placement Scholar for maintaining a 4 or higher average on AP tests and receiving a score of 4 or higher on 8 or more AP tests. 

AP Scholar with Distinction for maintaining a 3.5 or higher average on all AP tests and passing 5 or more AP tests.

Best Portfolio Management and Presentation Runner-up for he dealt with three different cases ranked by Goldman Sachs representatives and chosen a winner.

Notable Accomplishments

Henoch and his team was the runner-up for VEX Robotics Worldwide Online Programming Challenge.

Henoch created a free app for students studying Chinese to keep better track of their vocabulary.
