Henoch Argaw

Henoch Argaw was born to Sehin Kebede and Dr. Neway Argaw, in Tampere, Finland on March 23rd, 1998. He then moved with his family to Broomfield, Colorado in August of 98’.

Henoch attended Southeast Christian School for elementary school and Liberty Middle School for junior high. He then graduated from Grandview High School in 2016. He went on to pursue his under graduation at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge.

A resident of East Campus, Henoch was pursuing one of the Institute’s newest majors, 6-14 (Computer Science, Economics and Data Science) in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).

Beyond academics, he belonged to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, served as an officer for the MIT Club Sports Council, treasurer of the MIT Ethiopian-Eritrean Student Association (MIT-EESA), and participated in numerous campus activities, including the MIT Taekwondo Club, the Bitcoin Club, and the Skydiving Club.

A motivated self-learner, Henoch found joy by teaching and mentoring others. In the 3rd grade, he began tutoring his fellow students at Southeast Christian Academy Elementary School in Colorado.

Henoch loved to track and field, play soccer, table tennis,chess, poker and won many prizes & trophies in these sports. Henoch also liked to play the trumpet in his free time and performed on several occasions. He was adept in languages. Apart from English, Henoch spoke his native language Amharic. He also learnt Mandarin and Arabic.

Henoch was known for his gracious and quiet spirit. He spread love and knowledge to whoever would listen. Not only was he interested in understanding what he was taught in class, Henoch pursued to learn beyond the textbooks and taught himself and others many topics that were outside his major. Altogether, Henoch was very humble and pure-hearted concerning the events that happened in his life.

To everyone’s shock, Henoch passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2017 at just the age of 19, when he was a second year undergraduate student at MIT. Henoch is survived by his parents & sister.

Childhood of Henoch was always filled with fun, joy and awe. He had a great time with us all and we too had unforgettable days when he was an infant. Presenting here some of Henoch’s childhood memories. The talents in him started manifesting even when he was a kid. Such a wonderful and blessed child he was in our family.
